Four Ways to Protect Yourself From a DWI This Holiday Season


Holiday parties in Texas are in full swing and many party goers prefer to enjoy a few drinks at these events.  If you choose to drink alcohol this holiday season, help avoid a potential Texas DWI charge and keep yourself safe by keeping these tips in mind:

1. Plan ahead.

Before you head out, know where you’re staying that night and how you’re getting there.  Are you going to a friend’s house and planning to spend the night?  Make sure your friends are ready for you.  Are you going to come home?  Program the numbers of local cab companies into your cell phone so you can hire a sober ride for yourself or anyone else who needs one.  If you have a designated driver, be sure to thank him or her!

2. Monitor your drinking.

Choose quality over quantity by limiting yourself to one or two of your favorite drinks.  Mix up your alcohol intake with plenty of non-alcoholic beverages and food, especially in the last hour or two of the party.  You’ll sober up a bit and be able to make better choices for yourself and others.

3. Consider hosting.

If you’re already home, chances are good you won’t need to drive anywhere.  If you host, make sure designated drivers’ glasses are full of their favorite non-alcoholic beverage, and stop serving alcohol a few hours before the party ends.  Don’t hesitate to call a cab or offer other help to those who should not drive – don’t let your friends risk a DWI charge or worse.
